1983/84

Brian McNally became the sixth President in July 1983, while Michael Holland moved on to Zone Chairman. Carl Fay stayed on as Secretary.

A Gala Evening was held over the Summer months with the proceeds of £1,500 going to Abbeyside NS Building Fund.

The Club still had an involvement in the Causeway Tennis Club, with 580 members now in that club.

Another group was brought to Butlins, while hospital visits became a regular event.

Interestingly, President Brian, who later served for many years as Treasurer, got some training in for that role in by reminding members at the September meeting that subs were now due!

The cabaret was held again and the minutes show what a big logistical operation this event was every year. In 1983 it raised £2,100.

Again the Christmas Food Appeal with 2FM and the Christmas Swim were a feature of the year's activities as were the Carriglea Christmas outing, Cycle Tour and Lismore and Dungarvan golf outings.

Drug Awareness is mentioned several times in the minutes of the year - an indication of the growing problem.

A decision was made to support the setting up of a new Lions club in Youghal. Paddy Gordon took this project on board.

Brian introduced two new community projects in his year - renovating homes for the elderly and becoming involved in environmental matters.

For the first time a hospital visit to Lismore was undertaken. This was the start of a long association with St. Carthage's, which was to continue.

During the year the club embarked on its first Club Visit - to Carrick-on-Suir.

At the last meeting of the year it was agreed that a photographic record of activities be maintained - the first mention of an archive.
