Christmas Appeal

Dungarvan Lions Club has, since its formation in 1978, organised an appeal to raise funds for the less fortunate in our local community. The Appeal comprises many fund raising events assisted by individuals, clubs, schools and businesses in the West Waterford area.  In recent years the sum raised each Christmas has been in excess of €50,000, and is testimony to the generosity of the people of West Waterford.

Trabolgan Holiday

We participate, each year, in the Annual Holiday to Trabolgan, organised by Lions Clubs across Ireland. This is a week away for some 600 people, who may not otherwise get a break. Lions Club members organise all sorts of activities for our guests in a week of great enjoyment.

Nursing Home Visits

We visit local retirement homes on a regular basis, bringing music, song, and even a little dancing to the residents. These visits are eagerly anticipated by all concerned, and many lasting friendships have been built up through these activities. 

Diabetes Screening

This service has been revived in recent times and is held at the grounds of Dungarvan Agricultural Show. It is a free service that helps to identify those who may be at risk of this ever-growing and dangerous condition.

Addiction Awareness

We have held information evenings on addictions such as drink, drugs and gambling with panels of experts from their various fields. We have also worked with schools throughout the county in highlighting the dangers of drugs.

Message in a Bottle

This is an initiative where individuals, perhaps living alone or with an ongoing illness, place their personal and medical details in a plastic bottle, which is kept in the fridge. This can alert emergency services to details, such as allergies and medicines prescribed, which may save time and, potentially, lives.

The foregoing represents just some of our regular service events on how "we serve". Other activities over the years have included Old Folks parties, Suicide Awareness programmes with secondary schools, Special School outings, to mention just a few. We are always on the look out for new ways of serving our community.
