2010/11

President for 2010/2011 was Diarmuid Horgan,while Siobhan Fahey continued as Secretary.

Just before the season started, the President, Vice President Donal Connolly, and Paul Clerkin attended Regional Training in Cahir. Some members also attended PR training in Kilcoran Lodge given by Deputy District Governor, Ciaran Mullooly, which they found to be very good.

The first meeting of the year recorded sympathy being expressed to his family on the death of Richie Dalton, who served the Club as President in 1989/90.

Garda vetting was by now well under way, with members being very prompt returning their forms.

The District Governor, Terence Mangan, paid an early visit to the Club, and was very complimentary of our activities and helpful with his comments.

The Christmas Appeal got off to an early start with a concert by the Blackwater Band in mid November. The Appeal proper started with a very well attended concert in the Shopping Centre featuring Michael English in early December. Some early events were cancelled - remember December 2010 was the month of the Big Snow, but, despite this, the Appeal was again very successful. There were some new events to complement the old reliables.

The next big event was year two of the Deise Jigs and Reels. This was again an outstanding success. The President, who was on crutches two weeks before the event, made a miraculous recovery and danced his way through the pain barrier to come, well, not quite first in the competition. €13,800 was raised.

The Club brought 18 guests to Trabolgan, some on a repeat visit who made a small contribution. Phyllis Davis continued to drive this event, with great support from Brian McNally. The Garda bus was pressed into service for transport to and from Trabolgan, thanks to Paul Heffernan.

Hospital visits continued monthly, run by Tom Byrne, to Dungarvan, Lismore and Cappoquin.

John O'Brien again ran the Christmas Swim, with thanks to Johnny Lynch for that lovely nourishing soup for those brave enough to enter the water, and the softies who just watched on!
