2007/08

Michael Colivet took the President's chain in July 2007 for the next twelve months.

We can report that a very successful Golf Classic Marathon was held in August, shortly after Michael's year of office commenced. The beneficiary of this fundraiser was The Jonah Project. 

The location of the Lions Club Headquarters moved this year from it's traditional home on Grattan Square to the Shopping Centre. There was some lively debate about this move, but the decision to go ahead was taken on the basis of greater footfall. Since 2007 the HQ has remained in the Shopping Centre, but many activities continued around the Square. It was also the first year when the Remembrance Tree took over from the traditional street collection.

Some discussion also took place about the Pub Quiz, with some members being of the view that it was too early.

The Christmas Swim raised €2,500, and the minutes indicate that many new people were now getting involved.

Our long time member (from start up in 1978), Tommy Keevers, passed to his eternal reward in March. May he rest in peace.

Hospital visits continued throughout the year, and Trabolgan was held again under the stewardship of Phyllis Davis.
