2006/07

Bridget Burke became the second lady President of the Club. The Secretary's duties were carried out by Paul Clerkin.

A reunion of those who travelled to Trabolgan was held in Lawlor's Hotel in October. This was combined with a tribute and presentation to Jimmy Duggan, who had supported us with his music for years with his good friend, Johnny Moloney, in Trabolgan and at Hospital Visits.

A novel fundraiser was held in the Seanachai in November, when local personality, Nichola Beresford, showed off her culinary talents in a version of Celebrity Chef. She was very good, and we all left the Seanachai well sated.

The Christmas Appeal this year had two new events as fundraisers. One was the "on air" radio Table Quiz organised by Dungarvan and Waterford Lions Clubs with the support of WLRfm. It was a very novel concept, and it was well received by the public. The winning teams from various pubs across the County gathered in Crotty's of Leamybrien the following week for a Grand Final.

The second new venture was the Remembrance Tree in the Shopping Centre, which replaced the on street collection. A Mass was offered in January to commemorate those who were remembered at the tree.

Overall, and as was now the norm, the Appeal proved to be very successful

The Education Bursary was very active this year, with several students helped with their college funding.

The Christmas Swim, again organised by John O'Brien, had a large number of brave souls participating on a clear and cold Christmas Day. Johnny Lynch provided the lovely warming soup.

Hospital Visits, under Phyllis Davis' direction continued throughout the year. We added Padre Pio Nursing Home in Cappoquin to the visitation programme for the first time. Phyllis also organised the Trabolgan Holiday for some twenty guests.

New members, Jenny Beresford and JD O'Shea organised a Race Nite in Keane's Bar at the end of April in support of Chernobyl Aid. This was the Club's first venture into the Horsey business. Well done to Jenny and JD.

Coming towards the end of the year, a Garden Party was held in Joe Harney's Rock Garden in Old Parish. It was a lovely sunny day, when we had a large crowd who enjoyed the garden walks done by Phyllis, the visit from members of the local hunt in full regalia, the dog show, the refreshments, and other activities. The recipients of the funds raised were a local family, who had special needs. Our founder President, Derry Twomey, was the driving force behind this wonderful event.

We had many requests for support during the year, and the success of our various fundraisers allowed us to be very positive in assessing these.
