1993/94
Having been at the top table as Secretary for nine years, Paul Clerkin moved across in July 1993, to take over the President's chair, while John Coade slotted into the Secretary's role.
The first act of the Club in this year was to give a deserving family of two adults and seven children a holiday for a week.
The annual cabaret continued succesfully, with a full house of 500 and £2,200 raised for local charities.
A Christmas party was held for a group of 52 handicapped people, which was thoroughly enjoyed, in December. Also in December, the Annual Christmas Appeal was held again, and the records show that 320 families were supported. This huge logistical exercise was carried out by Lions members, the Society of St Vincent de Paul and Social Workers.
The Sponsored Cycle/Walk, now well established, raised £2,100, and the Golf Tournament netted £1,200.
Mosney was held again, with 16 guests being transported to the Co. Meath resort by Lions Members. They were also supported by a member staying with them for the week.
50 children from St. John's School were again brought on a day's outing.
The various fundraisers supported the Club's efforts to help the local community. Indeed the records of the year evidence a very wide spread of support.
On a sad note, just after Christmas came the news that our member and past President, Richie Walsh, had passed to his eternal reward. Richie was a very active member of the community, and the attached is a brief extract from the website of Waterford County Museum -
"Over time, Richie Walsh greatly expanded the range and depth of his involvement in voluntary work. The list of organisations in which he was actively involved is quite extraordinary. He was Founder Member and Past President of Dungarvan Lions Club, and played a particularly important role in the annual one-week trip to Mosney for local Senior Citizens sponsored by the Lions. He was Founder Member, and for many years Chairman, of St. Martin's Association for Senior Citizens, and was at the same time a member of Abbeyside Senior Citizens' Committee"
