1984/85

Paddy Gordon was the next to wear the President's Chain, and laid out very clear plans at the July meeting, on taking office. One of these was the setting up of a club in Youghal, which he achieved very successfully. Paul Clerkin took over as Secretary - little did he realise, at that stage, that he would hold the post for the next nine years!

The club supported a visit to the Gold Coast by Cork Wheelchair Association

It was recognised that some new members should be recruited, a recognition that new blood was necessary for the Club's future and several new members joined in the year.

Michael Walsh reported on several visits he made to Lions Clubs in the UK - club visits internationally!

It's interesting to note that Tom Heine, Zone Chairman from Waterford Club attended a meeting - sadly this practice, which was very useful in sharing ideas, did not become a regular feature.

As noted above, after a lot of meetings, cajoling, helping, support by President Paddy and other members of Dungarvan Lions Club, Youghal Lions Club was chartered on 26th April 1985 and thrived for many years thereafter. Sponsoring a club in Midleton was also mentioned during the year. It is interesting to note that Cahir and Enniscorthy Lions Clubs were also chartered in the year. Certainly, it was a year of growth in the organisation, with Dungarvan Club, under Paddy's direction, being very much to the fore.

Ongoing projects were the Butlin's Holiday, the Gala Night, Hospital visits, RTE2 Christmas Food Appeal, Christmas Swim, Cabaret, Carriglea Summer and Christmas outings, Annual Dinner, Cycle Tour, Lismore and Dungarvan Golf outings.......

Certainly a busy year.
