1982/83

Outgoing District Governor Joe Costello attended the Presidency handover meeting from Tom Coffey to Michael Holland on June 30th. In his address the DG gave some pointers which Michael felt would be very helpful for the year ahead. Carl Fay was again Secretary.

Michael formed various committees to look after different projects.

At the request of County Manager, Dan Hurley, the club became involved in an unusual project this year. This was the supervision of recreational facilities provided at the Causeway. Having placed ads in the local papers various organisations responded. The process continued throughout the year with five club members becoming trustees of what, in time, became the very popular Causeway Tennis Club.

Requests for assistance were coming from all quarters, including schools - and in accordance with the District Governor's comments in June it was decided to re-consider the club's assistance to them.

The club continued with it's involvement with RTE2's Christmas Food Appeal.

The drug problem was recognised by five members attending a Drugs Seminar in Clonmel.

New District Governor Glendon attended the January meeting and expressed appreciation of the way the club was run, being particularly taken with the structures and projects. He also promoted the idea of inter club visitations.

The cabaret, which raised £2,250; the Christmas swim, bringing in £2,300; the Cycle tour at £4,352; the annual golf competition; hospital visits; and St. John's and Carriglea outings all continued this year. The club also sent five people to Butlins.
