1980/81

Cyril Power took over as President in July 1980, and Joe Doyle continued as secretary.

We can report that a bike, donated by Pat O'Connell, raised £191 at the Golf raffle. In addition, the Club held a golf competition which raised £220.

Also, a summer outing for residents of Carriglea was held, with 62 residents and 13 Lions members travelling to The Vee, Mount Melleray and Ballyrafter.

A group of 40 from St John's school were taken to Kilkenny by train and had a great day at Kilkenny Castle.

Also this year, the Club sent deserving people to Butlins in Mosney. It is pleasing to report that this became an annual holiday thereafter - in later years to Trabolgan.

While the Cabaret was held again during the year, the minutes suggest that there was some disappointment at the outcome. It was decided to have a dedicated sub committee for this event in the future. History shows that this worked, as the cabaret ran for many years afterwards.

At the final meeting of the year it was decided that the annual subscription for the following year should be £18, as £17.25 went to Lions International......only leaving 75p per member for Club use.
